  • Aaarrrr...

So what be up me matey?  *blinks*  That didn't sound quite so "ghetto pirate" in my head as it seems now...

Well, I cast on my piratey skull & cross bones socks.  And then I decided post facto (is that right?  That's pathetic...I took Latin...why am I asking you?  Where'd I put that Latin dictionary?) to look up different pirate flags and see which famous pirate flew which Jolly Roger.  Turns out, I kinda sorta actually used one.  Of course...nobody's heard of the dude.  Well, perhaps you have lovely reader...Richard Worley.  Turns out he sailed the ocean blue in the early 18th century running amok on the coast of the American colonies (mostly the Carolinas and Virginia) and in the Caribbean.  He's even got a Wikipedia article! *gasp* So, I guess that nullifies my earlier statement that nobody'd ever heard of him.  lol.

Continuing the pirate history lesson...*points down*  See the pictures of the pirate booty bag?  Okay, that would be the Jolly Roger flown by Edward England.  Ironically (I still don't know if I use this word correctly or not), Edward England was born in Ireland.  So talk about your inner conflicts.  He sailed off the African Coast and in the Indian ocean between 1717 and 1720.  His crew mutinied because he was too merciful by allowing captives to live and he was marrooned and died shortly thereafter--even after going to all the trouble of making a raft and making it back to civilization.

Speaking of Irish/English relations...did you know that Ireland supported the Nazis in WWII?  I mean, you must really, really hate England to think that Hitler's a better choice.  Random factoid of the day (although this more like the third one).

Anyhoo...so, those socks are cast on...and I've already gotten half way through the fair-isle decided I wasn't happy with the way I'd stopped ribbing and ripped it back out.  lol.  However, I'm almost back up to the fair-isle again, so there's that.

Oh, and I cast on and finished the first ball of yarn in the short row celebrity scarf to match my pop-up paws and calorimetry.
