  • Tech Speicalist...

Me?  You've got to be kidding right?

Apparently not.  Somehow, without my knowing it...my friends have dubbed me the go to tech expert.  The other night I was conned into helping out two of my friends embaress themselves by splicing some music tracks together for them.  So worth the five minutes that it took of my time.  They can't dance...

Last night was fun too.  We went slush-riding--on the lid to a plastic bin...on A-Walk.  Doesn't it just keep getting better?  A-Walk had turned into an ice slick and the drunks were slipping and sliding down the last slope going towards the dorms, so we with our superior sober intellect decided to perfect the science and the physics.  We got plastic lids, garbage bags and used the slush instead of the ice and went like the wind.  IT WAS AWESOME!  And of course, the DUPO were there to make sure no one died--but did they stop us? No...  We should have given them cards they could hold up with points for style and skill.

Oh, and apparently, this is self proclaimed and not by any friendly source:
"I eat symbols for breakfast.  Nom nom nom."

Well, it's true!  They're called Lucky Charms!  Oh, and all the fun stuff that I graph out just for kicks and giggles.

  • Aaarrrr...

So what be up me matey?  *blinks*  That didn't sound quite so "ghetto pirate" in my head as it seems now...

Well, I cast on my piratey skull & cross bones socks.  And then I decided post facto (is that right?  That's pathetic...I took Latin...why am I asking you?  Where'd I put that Latin dictionary?) to look up different pirate flags and see which famous pirate flew which Jolly Roger.  Turns out, I kinda sorta actually used one.  Of course...nobody's heard of the dude.  Well, perhaps you have lovely reader...Richard Worley.  Turns out he sailed the ocean blue in the early 18th century running amok on the coast of the American colonies (mostly the Carolinas and Virginia) and in the Caribbean.  He's even got a Wikipedia article! *gasp* So, I guess that nullifies my earlier statement that nobody'd ever heard of him.  lol.

Continuing the pirate history lesson...*points down*  See the pictures of the pirate booty bag?  Okay, that would be the Jolly Roger flown by Edward England.  Ironically (I still don't know if I use this word correctly or not), Edward England was born in Ireland.  So talk about your inner conflicts.  He sailed off the African Coast and in the Indian ocean between 1717 and 1720.  His crew mutinied because he was too merciful by allowing captives to live and he was marrooned and died shortly thereafter--even after going to all the trouble of making a raft and making it back to civilization.

Speaking of Irish/English relations...did you know that Ireland supported the Nazis in WWII?  I mean, you must really, really hate England to think that Hitler's a better choice.  Random factoid of the day (although this more like the third one).

Anyhoo...so, those socks are cast on...and I've already gotten half way through the fair-isle decided I wasn't happy with the way I'd stopped ribbing and ripped it back out.  lol.  However, I'm almost back up to the fair-isle again, so there's that.

Oh, and I cast on and finished the first ball of yarn in the short row celebrity scarf to match my pop-up paws and calorimetry.

  • Go ahead, laugh.

    Done yet? No?  Too bad.

So, impulsive me felted my bag before I had given any thought as to how I was going to dry it or shape it.  So, now my desk chair is soaked from trying to put the bag as close to the heater as possible, my room smells like wet sheep and I'm using random plastic food containers as a mold.  Yep.  This is dorm life at its best.

100_1744 See the wash clothes?  That's where it was dripping last night.  Water was in between the layers of felt and would finally accumulate at the lowest point and pretty much pour out through the handles or the bottom of the bag once it'd been hanging for a while.  I'd wring it out, and twenty minutes later I'd find a huge puddle again.  The water came from nowhere it seemed.

Copy of 100_1743 Gotta love plastics.  So, there's my big ol' tea jug and a gladware container acting as a "mold".  *shakes head*

Oh, and I've nearly got another cunning hat finished.  Going really slow at it, and taking lots of pictures for pattern writing purposes.  Ooo...speaking of patterns...this weekend I took a request from my demon loving friends in the Supernatural group to make an intarsia chart of a pentacle...and so far, 25 downloads.  *fist pump* boo ya.

  • So, this afternoon I finished what little was left to the i-cord bind off on my pirate booty bag.  I even got it felted.  God love the washing machines on campus.  Me likey the super cycle.  Felting took like 5 minutes.

So, I will admit, the i-cord bind off was a total pain in the butt.  Granted, I think that's because like 80% of it had to be done while picking up stitches and not with live stitches.  However, once felted, the i-cord edging looked really nice--so...fine...i-cord beat my stubborness and frustration.

Oh, and I finally shipped off the helmet liner to Stitch for Senate.  Pathetic how long it takes me to end up at the mail room with money in pocket.

About Me

  • I've been stitching for nearly as long as I can remember and I'm hoping that by using this journal, I'll be able to better remember. ;-) lol.
